Peterson Christmas Pipe 2020 (#99)
Defined by a Bulldog bowl and round shank, the Rhodesian is a classic shape that's enjoyed a place on traditional pipe charts for well over a century. On Peterson's chart, the age-old form is designated as the "99," showcasing everything pipe smokers love about the traditional shape — hard lines around the bowl; a tapering rim; and a stout, muscular disposition in hand — while also boasting the Irish marque's conventional shaping cues. The bowl tapers above and below the design's defining beadlines, while the rim barely rises above the transition thanks to the extra heft lent to the shank — a signature stylistic element of Peterson.
Peterson has released an annual, special-edition Christmas pipe to commemorate the holiday season every year since 2009. Presented in a variety of the marque's most popular shapes, each year's edition focuses on a unique, singular finish, inspired by or evocative of the season. For 2020, Peterson has returned to the warm, fireside aesthetic championed in previous editions, complete with a rich, dark stain, copper army mount and a cumberland-patterned acrylic stem. Further elevating the Yuletide aesthetic, 2020's edition features a craggy sandblasted finish, once again showcasing the marque's artisan-style sandblasting equipment. It makes for a gorgeous display of this pipe's grain in stunning relief, making it a welcome companion not only for the winter months but year round, offering appealing texture in hand and a timeless color palette.
